What is vaginoplasty?
Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure to tighten the vagina.
Who chooses vaginoplasty?
Women who feel that their vagina is too loose commonly following vaginal childbirth or as they get older. Women, who feel that they or their partners have less feeling during vaginal intercourse due to vaginal laxity, request vaginoplasty.
How is vaginoplasty performed?
Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia by a gynaecologist. It can involve either tightening of the muscle at the vaginal entry with sutures or tightening of the tissue (muscle) along the posterior (back) vaginal wall.
Vaginoplasty can be done as a day procedure and can be combined with other aesthetic genital procedures.
How does vaginoplasty differ from vaginal laser treatment for vaginal tightening?
Vaginoplasty provides more long-lasting and more pronounced results in comparison to vaginal laser treatment for vaginal tightening. However, it is associated with a higher risk of complications. Dr Novikova will diagnose your personal condition and advise whether vaginoplasty is the appropriate procedure for you.
How long does the procedure take?
Vaginoplasty takes about one to two hours depending on the woman’s anatomy and the particular problem.
What is post-operative care following vaginoplasty?
Postoperative care is similar to other genital surgeries with no vaginal intercourse for 4-6 weeks, no heavy physical exercise for 4-6 weeks. Dr Novikova may prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection. Pain is usually very mild after this type of surgery and Dr Novikova will prescribe pain killers. It is important to avoid constipation with an appropriate diet high in vegetables, fibre and water. If you have not opened your bowel within 3 days after the operation laxatives should be taken (for example, movicol or glycerine suppositories).
It is advisable to take sick leave for minimum of two weeks to allow recovery from the procedure. Driving should be avoided while you are in pain or under the influence of pain killers that have sedative effect.
You should wash in a shower with warm water and avoid any soap or any other solutions in the genital area. Light exercise such as walking is permitted.
Dr Novikova will see you for follow-up 2 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months after the operation and at any other time you have issues or questions.
Who carries out the procedure and what is Dr Novikova’s experience?
Vaginoplasty procedures are carried out by both gynaecologists and plastic surgeons. Dr Novikova has performed many vaginoplasties as part of both medical and aesthetic procedures. She is a highly experienced and qualified medical gynecologist and has been trained and certified by the European Society of Aesthetic Gynaecology.
